Remember the rollercoaster ride HTC Desire users experienced with the Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) update? It was initially announced that the update would be rolling out to the handset, and then HTC announced that the Desire would never receive the update. In the end, HTC announced that the Desire would be getting the Gingerbread update, but not all of its features. The Sense UI was blamed for this. Apparently, it consumed too much of the phone’s memory to accommodate the update. This is the same case with the Galaxy S and the original Galaxy Tab and the Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) update.
Samsung already announced that these older models would not be receiving the ICS update. However, the Korean firm failed to reveal the reason. Now, it has explained the reason behind the omission.
On Samsung’s official blog site, it explains that TouchWiz was the reason Ice Cream Sandwich was not possible on the two devices. Due to the UI, Video Calls, and Samsung Widgets, there wasn’t enough room in the ROM to accommodate the latest iteration of Android.
