Arab League monitors tour despite criticism

BEIJING, Jan. 2 (Xinhuanet) -- Syrian state television has aired pictures of the Arab League's monitors touring the country, amid criticism that they are allowing the al-Assad regime cover up violence.
The observers were filmed visiting hospitals in Homs, Id-lib and Deraa city on Saturday. An Arab League advisory body has called for the immediate withdrawal of the monitoring mission, owing to doubts over its impartiality.
The Arab League team is checking whether President Bashar al-Assad is keeping his promise to end a crackdown against anti-government protesters.
